Fall 2016 Astrology Column
October begins with a flow of spiritual opportunity. Pluto is still stationing until the 4th, so the depth of Pluto stays with us. On the 7th, the ‘balance of power’ draws our attention and on the 12th the Moon and Neptune suggest a deepening of one’s spiritual beliefs. The Full Moon on the 15th at 10:23pm/MDT brings a deeper look into life, and changing what’s not working. Adventures and intensities beckon on the 18th and 19th and we enter Scorpio on the 22nd. Personal insight on the 27th and erratic energy on the 25th. Pay attention. On the 30th, we have a New Moon at 11:38AM/MDT: freedom of expression and a push to be more trusting. Small trusts lead to trusting in larger venues.
November begins with Standard Time starting on the 6th. The Full Moon comes on the 14th at 6:52AM/MST. Cultivating clarity is very important now with this Full Moon and Neptune stationing from the 14th-25th. If something isn’t obvious, inquire. Mercury enters its shadow of the next Retrograde (Rx) cycle on the 22nd. Thanksgiving Day on the 24th brings Jupiter square Pluto…power struggles possible over life philosophies. Agree to disagree. The New Moon on the 29th at 5:18AM/MST asks for concentration and focus. Insights and a sense of stability ensue. I notice in this New Moon chart that all the planets are within a 184degree bowl, one-half of the 360 deg. wheel with Jupiter and Uranus on either end. A ‘scoop’ of opportunity and expansion as we move nearer the New Year.
December begins with Mars trine Jupiter on the 1st. An abundance of energy to focus wherever
you need to. Freedom day on the 11th. The Full Moon on the 13th at 5:05PM/MST brings a Grand Trine in Air with Moon, Mars and Jupiter. Communications are easy, ideas flow, trust your feelings. On the 21st, the Winter Solstice arrives at 3:45AM/MST, asking for a balance between status quo and exploring new options. On Christmas Day, Venus trines Jupiter and we have a day of grace and enjoyment, just don’t overdo it. Challenges on the 26th. And Uranus is stationing from Dec.27-Jan.2: expect unexpected situations to occur. The New Moon on the 28th at 11:53PM/MST brings new goals, a sense of destiny, and a willingness to put out effort to make things happen. We end the year with Uranus turning Direct on the 29th, and that part of us that hears the beat of a different drummer is louder for a bit now. New Year’s Eve has Mars conjunct Neptune bringing an evening of deepening into gratitude and spirit. Happy New Year!!!

Time Trials by Terry Lee. Eight women forge friendships from dorm life their freshmen year of college. They dub themselves the Bad Ass Girls even though most of them aren't. They vow to be friends forever. This is the story of their journeys through 40 plus years of life individually and together until they become Bad Ass Golden Girls.
Written with great insight we are privy to their personalities, foibles, successes, growth, marriages and divorces. We get to see how a group of such diverse people manage friendship throughout the ups and downs of life with acceptance, love, honesty and support for each other under various circumstances including humorous and poignant ones.
Due to the author's research we also get a cultural history lesson as we walk down memory lane over these decades. Well written and heart warming, this book prompted a look back at my own life even though I'm a few years older than the BAGS. Guest Reviewer: Kate Guilford

The Beach House by Georgia Bockoven. The beach house is a vacation spot for several families for a month each summer. A tragedy has befallen the owner and she comes to the house early to have some time by the ocean to sort out her life. Her decision to sell the house means that this will be he last summer for each of the people coming there, who have used this beach house as a vacation destination for years. The All You Can Dream Buffet by Barbara O’Neal. Four food bloggers decide to gather on the lavender farm of one of them, in Oregon. From the first few pages, I knew I would love this book. We follow the lives and the challenges of these four women, from their cake, food or wine blogs, emails from their readers, and finally meeting in person on the lavender farm. Where Life Flourishes: Poems by Ann Griffin. Ann brings a lyrical easy voice to day-to-day life and calls us to see it through her eyes. Powerful Prayers for a Peaceful Pregnancy: The Expectant Mother’s Guide to Spiritual Well-Being and the Sacred Feminine by Marcella J. Lively, M.A. Marcella has created a beautiful work for the pregnancy and birth time of a woman’s life. From prayers of gratitude and introduction, to welcoming the new baby, it’s a very nice read for the pregnant woman and new mother. ISBN 978-1495457807. Available: Amazon.
The Garden of Letters by Alyson Richman. Her story is seamless and her words are lyrical on the page. I marveled, as a writer, how her use of words created an imagery that stayed with me. Her words are generous yet thoughtful. The story begins with Elodie as she seeks harbor in Portofino, Italy. An older man whom she doesn’t know, steps forward from the crowd. calling her cousin, The German officers inspecting her papers let her pass. So begins the story of Portofino and earlier in Verona, in Elodie’s childhood, and Angelo who has just given her shelter. A moving story. An excellent novel.
The Monogram Murders: The New Hercule Poirot Mystery by Sophie Hannah. Dedicated to Agatha Christie, this novel takes you back again into the world of this brilliant Belgian detective. His thinking and deductive acumen are just as we remember, along with his eccentricities. The author has meticulously picked up where Agatha left off. We follow the young British detective who has befriended Poirot and invites him to a hotel murder scene. The similarities of the three murder victims takes them by surprise. Yet Poirot pulls it out at the end. And Hercule would be proud of this author for giving him life again in his dapper fashion! ISBN978-0-06-229721-1.

The Glass Kitchen by Linda Francis Lee. Portia thinks in food when she wakes and is overtaken with a food item or an entire meal plan in her mind. She dreads her gift. She knows that someone will show up that day and that that item or menu is relative to them. This book is a love story, a recipe for life, a heartfelt look at choices and the people in our lives. I enjoyed this book so much, I went and found an earlier book by the author, Emily and Einstein, and am loving this almost more. ISBN978-1-250-04963-6.
