Dear Friends,

The younger of us, and our children and our grandchildren, show the capacities needed in their nervous systems and intelligence to deal with the technology of our present time and near future. So we are all equipped to handle these times.

As Clarissa Pinkola Estes stated, “We have been born for these time.” We are able to handle the personal doubts and transformations afoot in these times of the Kali Yuga. This is the large cycle of ‘darker before the dawn.’ And the ‘dawn’ is the Golden Age of Aquarius. We are holding space for the integrity of the Age that we are finishing u so that the strength of the Light prevails, and can carry us through. Just as we are so much larger that the simple, individual lives we lead in the day to day (and that must be honored and met), so are we also living in such a larger cycle of evolution that begs us to carry on.

In our history as human beings, we have had periods of time that ‘tried men’s souls.’ We may feel that we are entering another one. Yet surprises and grace outweigh the doubts and fears. Be open to the possibilities.

Even though many have expressed the desire that 2016 be over, just changing into another day does not diminish anything looming on the horizon. However, 2016, in numerology was a 9 year. A year of finishing up old business and getting ready for the new. 2017 reduces to a 1 year, the first year of a new 9 year cycle, new beginnings, new outlook. So there is a change afoot.

Blessings,

Jyoti

Winter 2017 Astrology Column

January begins with Sun conjunct Pluto on the 6th and brings us a day of intensity and potential change. Mercury turns Direct on the 8th at 2:43AM/MST and we re-address events from the previous 3 weeks. Expect the unexpected on the 10th, and the Full Moon arrives on the 12th at 4:34AM/MST. A Cardinal Grand Square dominates the chart: reviewing one’s life philosophy over the next month would be an appropriate response. Push/pull energy on the 19th. The New Moon at the 27th at 5:07PM/MST suggests that creativity is strong and it’s time to look at relationship dynamics. Work and health take a focus as well. Mercury catches up today and moves into new territory. January ends with Mercury bringing a few days of insight and intuition. On Jan.30, Venus enters the shadow of her Retrograde (Rx) cycle. We begin a 3 ½ month process of reassessing finances, priorities, and our sense of direction.

February has the Full Moon Eclipse on the 10th at 5:33PM/MST asking us to nourish ourselves and be open to expansiveness in different areas of our lives. Mental expansion on the 21st and challenges on the 22nd. The New Moon Eclipse on the 26th at 7:58AM/MST has Mars and Uranus the same degree…be mindful of how you move your body through space and time so that you don’t abruptly put yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. The energy is erratic. This Eclipse also brings a deepening of one’s spiritual life and asks us to balance our impulsiveness with keeping things moving along smoothly.

March comes in with a Jupiter/Uranus opposition on the 2nd and we see where we get in our own way. Venus turns Rx on the 4th at 2:08AM/MST and we begin an internal process of looking at values, where our resources come from and go to, and where we might make changes. Insights on the 6th. The Full Moon on the 12th at 8:54AM/MDT asks us to not limit our thinking or act our of fear. Be generous with yourself as well as with everyone else. Push past the limitations on the 17th as well. The Vernal Equinox on the 20th at 4:29AM/MDT brings a lot of passion, risk-taking and a need for boundaries so that others get that No means No from you. Insights on the 23rd and loving yourself more on the 25th. The New Moon on the 27th at 8:57PM/MDT says there is staying power. Try new things. Intuition is high. Be practical. The 29th is a good learning day and the month ends with advice to not give your power away.   Happy Spring!

Winter 2017 Book Reviews

The Sins of Innocence by Jean Stone. A moving story of four young women who meet in the late 60s at a home for unwed mothers. At the time, this stigma was rampant, with the loss of respect of family, and a sense of shame. They bonded in their own way.

Now, 25 years later, one of the women has a desire to meet her child, and organizes a meeting of all the mothers and their given-up-for-adoption children.

After following each woman before the births and afterwards, no one of them know if she or their son or daughter will come to the reunion. A wonderfully crafted story.

My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel by Ari Shavit,  For the first time I feel an understanding for the whole picture of the land of Israel coming into being. The author begins with the 1897 travels of his grandfather from Britain to the land he picked for the safe landing of Jewish souls from all over the world. Although Shavit was a columnist for the left-leaning Israeli daily Haareta, he transcends politics, with interviews and as a great storyteller with historical detail and personal memoir. “A new Jewish Israeli narrative.” A mesmerizing read.  ISBN 978-0-385-52171-0   Guest Reviewer:  Ann Griffin

Turnings: A Memoir by Carol Grever. The author writes about those moments in time that bring change, that change us. We are awakened, like it or not, and then our life takes us in a different direction, a different perception. They are like intervals in music of which Gurdjieff and Ouspensky wrote, those moments in time where a space is created for our spiritual life to be re-enlivened.

Ruby Flynn by Nadine Dorries. 1940’s Ireland. A blizzard rescue and convent life, a castle cursed and haunted yet holding secrets to Ruby, and an awakening of love. Loved this!

Pack Up the Moon by Anna McPartlin. Contemporary Dublin. A young couple, suddenly hit by tragedy, tries to cope with grief. Life long friends help Emma as they can, yet they are all immersed in their own life-struggle. Looking at friendship, real life situations that test us, and a very good sense of humor, we learn along with Emma what makes us want to live. Very Good.

ISBN9781416553090.

Looking for ‘Cuda Brown by Thomas Park   A collection of extraordinary poems telling of vivid, African-American characters who passed through the life of the author in a small, rural town in the South. Sometimes they entertain and sometimes you weep for the terrible tragedy of a life. Park reached deep into his soul to let you know that these people lived and died and mattered, without any judgment from him. If these characters were not noticed in life, they will remain with the reader for a long, lingering time.  Guest Reviewer: Arlene S. Bice

Snapshots, Memories and Recipes by Sandra Martin   These snaps are words from the life she lived growing up on a farm followed by 25 years in Manhattan, New York. Her adventures as a literary agent and executive producer for television (The Power of Dreams, Discovery Channel) are balanced between recipes from her passion of cooking for friends. Martin has lived a fascinating life by making things happen, by following her intuition and listening to her dreams. This is a fabulous read that will inspire others to take a chance on life. http://www.lisahaganbooks.com/book_snapshots.php

The Good and The Bad

At this time even

the slightest kernels of joy

line our interior spaces

deep in our gut and heart.

This precious goodness,

available anytime

within a deep breath,

within a stopped thought pattern.

The good and bad shine light on each other.

We now have the shades opened wide.

All band aids torn off.

Stop focusing on who’s in the Whitehouse.

Focus on your creative resources.

Focus on one another,

and what we are doing together

for the good of the collective.

The Good and the Bad

There’s always two sides to a situation, and that’s how thing work on this planet: the good and the bad, the light and the dark, the up and the down.

One learns through living their lives that when one is on top, someone else will soon have that experience and they, themselves, slide to the bottom.

We live in a polarity. Times of plenty, times of want. One country is an Empire for just so long, and then another rises and takes it place.

Mountains may have once been sea level plains and now occupy the space between land and sky.

The balance of opposites. Everyone has some of each and to balance it all and not be attached to any of it is the key. When we’re winning, we’re elated. When we lose, we crash and burn emotionally. And yet the only thing that’s really changed is our emotional attachment to outcome.

How do we hold our seat, as the Buddhists say, in the midst of the emotional roller coaster this life rides us on. How do we lessen the impact of the highs and lows.

And when it’s personal, how do we hold love and hate, joy and pain, receiving and letting go, life and death.

We learn as we go. We learn the impermanence of it all, and how to navigate that in our human daily life.  Jyoti Wind
